When I was a boy, I kept a small glow-in-the-dark figurine of the Madonna by my bedside. I felt she would be able to protect me from the night. When I began sculpting this piece, that image emerged and somehow directed the piece. It is a reminder of the sacred, and the power of that in our lives.

At the same time, this piece explores the dichotomy between virginity and birth; purity and procreation. The raw orange alabaster insert within the pristine white of the madonna speaks to the potential power of purity and the sacred; that it is not sterile, but pregnant with beauty and power.
