Ironwood is a tough wood. It is hard to work. As you sculpt, you uncover flaws and cracks, but you find ways to work around them or with them. As this piece developed into a theme that to me represented motherhood, I realized that it was appropriate.

True motherhood grows through hardship, she recognizes flaws and makes positive use of them, and above all, she is protective through her strength.
